Literacy Instruction in Fourth Grade
In fourth grade, literacy instruction incorporates both sides of the reading rope to develop skilled readers. What is a skilled reader? Simply put, it is the act of understanding and interpreting what we read. More specifically, it is the fluent execution and coordination of word recognition and text comprehension. The fourth grade teachers will model and explicitly teach morphology (understanding word parts) and provide a lot of opportunities for your child to practice reading comprehension strategies both orally and in writing.
